Cheyenne Pair of Possible Bags, 1860-1870 / Ex Bruce Johnson (personal collection) / Published
A pair of bags constructed out of native tanned buffalo hide, which is decorated on the verso with horizontal rows of dyed porcupine quills. On each, the top, bottom and center rows consists of three lanes with white blocks. Aligning vertically with the crosses are columns of commercial cloth tufts. The top flap and side seams are decorated with panels of sinew-sewn seed beads consisting of alternating powder blue and yellow inscribed block. The ends of the panels are accented with tin cones which are stuffed with dyed horse hair.
