Kiowa Model Cradle, 1880 / Ex Mike Walsh, IL / Published

A pair of shaped wooden boards, painted with yellow ochre and each with a central red dot. The edges of the borders are ornamented with pins. The bodice of the cradle is hide, lined with commercial cloth, and decorated on the outside with sinew-sewn beadwork on canvas. The beadwork consists of two interconnected circles which are divided into quadrants on one side, and two floating red diamonds on the other. Connecting the boards is a canvas skirt with abstract multi-colored floral elements.

22.5” tall, 8.25” wide and 5.5” deep
