Northern Plains Knife Case, 1860

A sheath constructed from buffalo rawhide and the recto side is covered in tanned hide which is decorated with sinew-sewn seed beads. The recto side has an upper section in which two yellow diamonds bordered in navy sit on a pink ground. The lower portion consists of a central vertical barber pole lane in which “pony trader” blue alternates with butterscotch orange. The lane is flanked with navy and sits on a pink field.
