Northern Plains Knife Case, mid-19th century / Ex Dr. Pamplin Jr, OR

A sheath with a rawhide liner wrapped with native tanned hide, decorated on both sides with sinew-sewn beads. Recto: An upper hemisphere with two stepped yellow diamonds, bordered with red and navy on a pink ground. The lower hemisphere has an out curved edge with blue/yellow/pink chevron designs executed in micro beads. Verso: the upper hemisphere consists of a center lane of stacked pony trader blue trapezoids, flanked by pink, then black. The lower hemispheres is largely undecorated, save for the outer edge, which is accented with a pink and black sawtooth design. Further inside is an undulating yellow and green line, surmounted at its tops by triangles executed in the same colors.
