Pony Beaded Cheyenne Possible Bag, 1860

A bag constructed out of native tanned hide decorated with pony beads, micro beads and seed beads. The front side of the bag consists of a grid of spaced beaded horizontal lanes. The motif forms two pink lanes, flanked by pony trader blue read beads, which sit on a yellow field. The sides of the bag are decorated with a bar pattern with navy and white, as well as white-heart red accents. The bars are flanked by blue/yellow/blue pony beads. The side seams are further accented with pairs of dew claws. The opening flap is also decorated with a similar seed beaded bar pattern. Restoration has been conducted on the sides, to fill in missing sections of beadwork. An accompanying collection tag reads, “3249 / 1860 Cheyenne / Possible Bag”.
