Southern Cheyenne or Arapaho Tobacco Bag, 1875

A native tanned hide bag, stained with ochre, decorated with seed beads along the seams and base. The opening consists of four bifurcated tabs, trimmed with red and white beadwork, terminating in tin cones stuffed with horsehair. The base is decorated with a geometric design consisting of a red diamond flanked by blue triangles. The design sits on a white ground. Beneath the beadwork, there are corn husk wrapped slats, horse hair stuffed tin cones, and twisted fringe.
