A wooden stick wrapped in native tanned buffalo hide; the haft is accented with dew claw suspensions and alternating blocks of blue and white sinew-sewn “real” beads. A suspended drop – also in buffalo – is quilled with naturally dyed porcupine quills on the recto side, while the verso side has blue and white beads in a repeated “X” motif, trimmed in pony beads. On the recto side, there is an old collection tag which reads, “Medicine Man’s Rattle / Three Cross Designs White X / Blue Beads Gunther-Coll / Acc. No. B-218-1H”. Ex Charles F.
